Richard Darnell May was an American actor born on July 8, 1958; who grew up in South Bronx, New York City. He is the son of Gloria Peeler of Springfield, Massachusetts. Richard was an advocate for the unhoused with Tenants Together, Coalition on Homelessness, San Francisco and Housing Rights Committee of San Francisco. He also worked alongside the African-American Shakespeare Company and American Conservatory Theater while living in San Francisco, CA. Prior to living in the Bay Area, he called Seattle, WA home.

Richard attended Greenfield Community College for his Associate of Arts, Drama and Modern Literature from 1980-82. From 1982-85 he attended Westfield State College, graduating with his Bachelor of Science in Economics. In 2008-09, Richard took classes at San Francisco State University to become a Certified Occupancy Specialist in Affordable Housing. From 2012-13, he attended City College of San Francisco where he took courses in Construction Management. Richard passed away on October 28, 2023.
